2003 :

These pictures were taken seconds apart at 4:17 pm on August 11th in between Shelburne and Mount Forest (but closer to Shelburne). To the best of my knowlege this funnel lasted about 10 seconds. The cloud in the background was not related to the funnel as near as I could tell. In the second pic it appears that the background cloud is being sucked up the funnel. From what I could tell that was not the case.

I caught a second funnel about 20 minutes later farther south. Dave Patrick was in the area and I believe he caught that one as well. These pictures could be a lesson in all the wrong things to do. I was alone, much too close, under a rotating sky and had a funnel moving directly toward me. When I bolted the scene I had not realized that the storm had enveloped me from all sides. I got swamped by strong buffeting winds, incredible rain and a wall of leaves and twigs. Many of the flying twigs got jammed in the grill of my truck.

AUGUST 11 :

Approx 4:45 pm and 4:55 pm south of Grand Valley.
