Default Aug.15.10 Waterloo Region Mini Storm Chase

Around 7pm a nearly stationary thunderstorm developed near Milverton in norhern Perth County. Eventually it picked up speed and inched across Wellesley Township, taking a southeast turn towards Waterloo. About 200 thunders were observed by Buffalo radar. The thunderstorm then took on supercell characteristics on radar, including mid-level and low-level rotation. When the new scan came in, the storm had progressed to St. Jacobs in Woolwich Township- about 5km north of here- with a small hook echo. We hoped in the car and drove north to intercept it.

After we left, the storm fizzled, but we caught a brief wall cloud and possible funnel cloud.

Because the photos are over 1mb, you'll have to click on each to view.

Storm view from my house

Wall cloud develops

Approaching the thunderstorm by RIM Park

Entering Woolwich Township

Just leaving Conestogo, shelf cloud

Possible brief funnel just outside of Bloomingdale near eastern portions of Waterloo

Great shots Derecho.

ps - I edited your original post and used the "Insert Image" icon and put the links into the pop-up box so that the images are shown directly in the msg just to make it easier.
