December 9th-10th - Freezing Rain, Snow and Rain

System initially looked quite strong in the models about a week ago, dropping below 990mb. That has significantly weakened but the track remains the same. Sadly we would need the system to be a bit more east if we want some significant snow accumulation, looks like we are stuck with a rain/snow slopfest. BUT at least we get a freezing rain warning out of the whole deal, which excites me:

A weather system from the American Midwest is tracking towards Southern Ontario.

Freezing rain, preceded by a brief period of snow or ice pellets, has begun in the southwest and will reach the Greater Toronto area by late afternoon and regions northward toward the south end of Georgian Bay by early evening. In these areas, the freezing rain is expected to last a few hours before changing to rain.

Further north and east, including areas east of Georgian Bay and across Eastern Ontario, more snowfall is likely to occur in advance of the freezing rain. Around 5 to locally 10 cm of snowfall is likely in these areas before the snow changes to freezing rain overnight. A more prolonged period of freezing rain extending well into Monday is then possible, especially for regions near the Ottawa Valley.

Motorists are urged to be cautious during this first widespread mix of wintery weather. Untreated roads and sidewalks are likely to become slippery due to the snow and freezing rain.

Guelph, ON getting somewhat nasty. Freezing rain/snow mix right now, solid ground level wind. Stepped outside and was blasted with ice pellets. Ground has a thin layer of ice in some places.

Little-no snow accumulation but I'm enjoying this short blast of winter until we switch over to rain.
