Fri. Aug.11, 2017 - Severe thunderstorms / tornado warnings
Weather summary
for Ontario and the National Capital Region updated by Environment Canada at 8:42 a.m. EDT Saturday 12 August 2017. Discussion. An active weather day over southwestern Ontario on Friday. Late Friday afternoon, a thunderstorm moved from lower Michigan across Essex County and reached Leamington near 5.40 PM. Radar and photographs taken at that time support the occurrence of a probable tornado in the area. There are reports of damage to solar panels and a greenhouse. Around 7:30 pm Friday another quickly rotating thunderstorm moving from west to east passed over Hawkesville and continued east likely passing just south of Elmira towards the village of Maryhill. Photographs of the thunderstorm as well as subsequent damage photos in the area suggest this was a second possible tornado in the Hawkesville area. There are reports of snapped power poles and debris in open fields. Continuous lightning was associated with this thunderstorm. A team is investigating the wind damage in the Hawkesville area of Waterloo Region. Please note that this summary may contain preliminary or unofficial information and does not constitute a complete or final report. End/OSPC |
