AT 8:30 PM EDT SATURDAY 23 JULY 2011.

TORNADO WARNING FOR:
WATFORD - PINERY PARK - EASTERN LAMBTON COUNTY
STRATHROY - KOMOKA - WESTERN MIDDLESEX COUNTY.

==DISCUSSION==
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM IS SOUTH OF STRATHROY MOVING SOUTHEASTWARD AT
50 KM/H. THIS STORM MAY BE PRODUCING A TORNADO BUT IS SHOWING SIGNS
OF WEAKENING. THE STORM WILL CONTINUE ON A TRACK SOUTHEASTWARD AT
50 KM/H OVER THE NEXT HOUR. OPP COMMUNICATIONS REPORTS DAMAGING
WINDS AND 2 LARGE HYDRO TOWERS COLLAPSED WITH THIS STORM EARLIER THIS
EVENING IN EASTERN LAMBTON COUNTY IN THE VICINITY OF FOREST ROAD AND
CHRCHILL LINE. HAIL TO 3 KM/IN DIAMETER AND WIND GUSTS OVER 100 KM/H
ARE LIKELY WITH THIS STORM.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY PRODUCING TORNADOES ARE IMMINENT OR
OCCURRING IN THE AREA. LARGE HAIL, DAMAGING WINDS AND HEAVY RAINFALL
MAY ALSO ACCOMPANY THESE STORMS.

MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS AND TAKE IMMEDIATE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS IF
THREATENING WEATHER APPROACHES.

This CBC article says it was like an F2 tornado. Some knowledgeable folks out there in tornado investigations say usually it takes an EF3 tornado to take down steel hydro transmission towers.

Guess we'll have to see what EC determines.

WEATHER SUMMARY FOR ALL OF SOUTHERN ONTARIO AND THE
NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA
AT 11:26 AM EDT TUESDAY 26 JULY 2011.

ENVIRONMENT CANADA HAS CONFIRMED AN F2 TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN
LAMBTON COUNTY OF SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO SATURDAY EVENING JULY 23RD
2011. THE DAMAGE TRACK IS ONE HALF KM WIDE AND 11 KM LONG EXTENDING
FROM 7 TO 8 KM SOUTHEAST OF WYOMING ONTARIO TO 10 TO 12 KM SOUTH OF
WATFORD ONTARIO. THE DAMAGE OBSERVED ALONG THIS PATH INCLUDED A BARN
DESTROYED AND SEVERAL STEEL HYDRO TOWERS DOWN. THIS IS CONSISTENT
WITH THE STRENGTH OF AN F2 TORNADO WITH WIND SPEEDS IN THE 180 TO
230 KM/H RANGE.

NO DEATH OR INJURIES WERE REPORTED IN ASSOCIATION WITH THIS TORNADO.

Pretty amazing that the supercell produced a half km wide tornado that was on the ground for 11km, yet radar presentation was less than impressive for such a strong tornado! It must have peaked at intensity between Detroit radar scans.

Here is the best radar image I could produce with the algorithm of 302 degrees moving at 28 kts

That video looks more like a scary looking cloud instead of a tornado. Plus the video description puts it at least 15-20km northwest of where the actual tornado was.
