HUMIDEX ADVISORY
UPDATED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA
AT 10:22 PM EDT TUESDAY 19 JULY 2011.

HUMIDEX ADVISORY CONTINUED FOR..
WINDSOR - ESSEX - CHATHAM-KENT.

HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE WEDNESDAY.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
==DISCUSSION==

A HOT, HAZY AND HUMID TROPICAL AIR MASS WILL REMAIN IN PLACE
WEDNESDAY ACROSS THE WINDSOR TO CHATHAM AREAS RESULTING IN HUMIDEX
VALUES ONCE AGAIN REACHING THE LOW FORTIES IN THE AFTERNOON.

LATEST INDICATIONS SUGGEST THAT THE HOT AND HUMID AIR WILL ADVANCE
NORTHEASTWARD INTO MUCH OF THE REST OF SOUTHERN ONTARIO BEGINNING
WEDNESDAY MORNING. HUMIDEX ADVISORIES MAY BE EXPANDED INTO
MANY MORE REGIONS BY WEDNESDAY MORNING AS A RESULT.

THE HIGH HEAT AND HUMIDITY IS EXPECTED TO RETURN TO ALL OF SOUTHERN
ONTARIO BY WEDNESDAY, REACHING A PEAK ON THURSDAY WHEN TEMPERATURES
ARE EXPECTED TO SOAR INTO THE RECORD-BREAKING MID TO HIGH THIRTIES
IN MANY AREAS. CONDITIONS WILL BE PARTICULARLY HOT IN SOUTHWESTERN
ONTARIO AS WELL AS AROUND TORONTO WHERE READINGS CLOSE TO 38 DEGREES
WILL COMBINE WITH THE HUMIDITY TO CREATE A HUMIDEX IN THE MID
FORTIES. IT WILL CONTINUE HOT ON FRIDAY AND INTO THE UPCOMING
WEEKEND FOR MOST OF SOUTHERN AND EASTERN ONTARIO WITH TEMPERATURES
REACHING THE LOW TO MID THIRTIES. IT WILL BE THE COMBINATION OF THE
DURATION OF THE HEAT ALONG WITH WARM OVERNIGHT CONDITIONS WHICH
MAKES THIS HEAT EVENT PARTICULARLY SIGNIFICANT.

DURING TIMES OF HIGH HEAT AND HUMIDITY, IT IS CRITICAL TO STAY
PROPERLY HYDRATED BY DRINKING PLENTY OF FLUID LIKE WATER OR JUICE.
STRENUOUS OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE SCHEDULED DURING THE EARLY
MORNING OR EVENING HOURS. WEAR LOOSE FITTING, LIGHT WEIGHT CLOTHING
AND SPEND AS MUCH TIME AS POSSIBLE IN AIR CONDITIONED PLACES.
STAY OUT OF THE SUN AND NEVER LEAVE ELDERLY, CHILDREN OR PETS
UNATTENDED IN A CAR.

END/OSPC

One day of solid storms would be a great relief. Anyone willing to bet the humidex will surpass 50 on Thursday? The Weather Network is predicting 48.

Phoenix Arizona temperatures, except with tropical humidity added

Yah, my brother went to Tucson and Phoenix. One day it was 113F and he said it was nothing. It's so dry that your body cools off so quick.

Not like here where you open the front door and the humidity and heat smacks you in the face, and the sweat just sticks to the body because it can't evaporate due to there already being so much moisture in the air. I think it's even amplified here in St. Kitts with the escarpment wrapping around the city, and being surrounded by L.Ontario to the north, L.Erie to the south, and the Niagara River to the east. The escarpment seems to trap all that heavy humid air right on top of us.

Oh well, the soft-fruit crops love it so I guess that farmers don't mind :) And nothing beats driving down the street and picking fresh peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, etc... right off the trees. Still though, I thought all this humidity would be good fuel for some storms. No triggers to set it off unfortunately. :(

Tomorrow will be a good test for those with stamina. Today's 34-35C wasn't as hot as tomorrow is predicted to be (37-38C). The record is 40C set in 1926 or something...

.. not until tomorrow :)

Nice breeze today at times, at least. It got up around 36-37C without the humidity, and 50C with the humidity.

Humidex for St. Catharines currently sitting at 47C, but it's almost 6pm.

I don't understand how humidity below is showing only 55%. (!?) You open the door and the moisture hits you like a hammer. Humidity should be showing more like 90% on a day like today, no?

I'm surprised too! I checked and Toronto's relative humidity is showing as 47%, yet this evening it says it will shoot up to 73%

Ok, my Kestrel 3000 is showing 31.6C with dew point at 31.5C, and 100% humidity. Although the hygrometer on this has shown a bit high in the past.

Humidex readings on it, in St. Catharines at 10:35PM (Jul.21) are 50.6C and 51C. (somewhere around 121F).

I took some pictures but unfortunately my camera lens fogged up almost instantly of stepping outside.

Oddly enough, my cigar humidor hygrometers are both still showing 70%, which is exactly what the gel packs inside the humidors are set to keep them at, so I'm guessing they're not working properly. But I'll trust my $150 Kestrel over my $10 Hong Kong eBay hygrometers I guess.

Please excuse the blurry shots - I didn't notice the lens had fogged up.

Niagara hottest in the heat wave! (didn't have to tell me that of course, I was out in it)

I'd be interested in seeing St. Catharines values, although my Kestrel 3000 hand unit was showing over 37. But that reading is far from official.

Happy to hear Kitchener broke a record -- for once! Extreme weather always forgets to visit KW :whistling:

35.7 translates to 96F. Not quite the triple digits I was most dearly hoping to experience. Until next time!
