The Pelmorex public alerting system is operational!

The very first emergency alerts issued in Ontario were for the train derailment and evacuations in Northumberland County. Click the middle code string:

No tests are scheduled at this time, but with Spring already here and svr wx season ramping up, hopefully some of us will catch a glimpse of our new warning system.

Read through the FAQ's, etc. Very interesting and delightful information on there, looks like pretty soon the ACA/PAS will mirror the USA's EAS... also Pelmorex expects at some point in the future to have media interrupt programing and report on emergency situations.

It says that the authorized gov't agency in ON to use the ACA/PAS is Emergency Management Ontario. It briefly mentions EC may use the system to broadcast warnings, but doesn't give a definitive answer. I sincerely hope the ACA/PAS will not be broadcasting EMO Red Alerts for meteorological emergencies. There really is no need for the alert system to active twice with a severe weather warning from Environment Canada followed by a Red Alert by EMO. I guess we'll have to wait and see how they'll screw up the alert system. :whistling:

Anyway, this is the first step in the right direction. Better late than never, right?
